All District 211 students deserve access to preparation for important standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT to put them on the best path for success in college acceptance and scholarship opportunities.
A 2021 analysis of SAT preparation for D211 students revealed a significant disparity within the district. Fremd High School offered over 100 hours of preparation to students while Palatine High School offered 5 hours of preparation.
Teacher compensation was guaranteed as part of the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Education and the D211 Teachers' Union. So teachers were guaranteed a standard stipend amount regardless of how much support was provided to students. Total teacher compensation for SAT preparation at Palatine High School was $18,386 (calculated to over $900 per hour). Total teacher compensation for SAT preparation at Fremd High School was $17,047 (calculated to $170 per hour). (Information source: FOIA responses from D211)
Our children are failing and experiencing long term negative impacts due to the administration’s decision to provide only a half day of education during the 2020-2021 school year.
As a result, less than half of the students in D211 meet the minimum standards in math and reading. The district experienced a decrease of nearly 10% in scores when comparing pre-Covid to post-Covid data, including Palatine High School with a startling 20% decrease.
What we have learned is that students need to be in the classroom FULL TIME and that there is still so much more needed to catch them up both academically and socially as they continue to recover from learning lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Students will benefit more from a school district that’s focused on mastering the basic subjects rather than agenda-driven politicized nonsense.
Throughout American history, we have had historic and impactful catalysts for change such as Abraham Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A D211 English class was assigned to watch the following videos as part of a unit called Catalyst of Change. The students were pursuing these learning targets:
Watch the videos and make your own determinations about the learning targets:
“I can understand the ideas, issues, concepts, and values reflected in our NON-FICTION literature" for the Catalyst of Change unit.
Do these videos reflect our community values? Or should they be considered NON-FICTION literary works?
Time and time again, the school curriculum is reflective of the political leanings of certain teachers, rather than centered on an inclusive environment for all students, who are there to learn basic subjects and critically think for themselves.
